Here we go with the list. These are the cat health issues I’ve personally fought (and sometimes lost battles with). No expert BS, just my screw-ups and what kinda worked.

1. Hairballs – The Never-Ending Grossness

Hairballs are like the entry-level cat health issue everyone gets hit with. Luna does this dramatic hack-hack-hack thing every 10-14 days, usually right where I walk barefoot. I’ve started brushing her obsessively (okay, semi-obsessively) with this Furminator thing and sneaking pumpkin into her wet food. If they’re coming up like daily though, vet time—could be diet or something inflammatory. I ignored it once for too long and felt like the worst cat parent ever.

(That’s kinda what she looks like when she’s feeling off—poor girl just wants to nap it off.)

2. Vomiting – Way More Than Hairballs

Vomiting is one of those cat health issues that can mean nothing or everything. My other cat (the orange idiot) used to projectile barf his kibble because he’d inhale it. Slow feeder bowl changed the game. But when it’s foamy yellow or has blood? Emergency vet run. I did one of those 3 a.m. drives once—turns out he stole some pizza crust. Lesson learned: no people food.

3. Dental Problems – Breath That Could Peel Paint

Cat dental issues creep up bad. Luna’s breath started smelling like death and the vet was like “yeah, tartar buildup + gingivitis.” I brush her teeth now with this poultry-flavored paste—she fights me every time but we manage. I wish I’d started sooner; it would’ve saved on deep cleanings. Good resource: Cornell Feline Health Center dental page.

(Real vet dental checks look exactly like this—cats do NOT love it.)

4. Urinary Tract Issues – Panic Mode Activated

This one is terrifying. Cat health issues don’t get scarier than when they strain in the litter box with blood spots. Happened to Luna last year—rushed to vet, got antibiotics + prescription urinary food. Stress makes it worse too; I stopped rearranging furniture randomly after that. (When they’re sitting like that too long… yeah, heart drops.)

5. Obesity – The Treat Guilt Spiral

My cats love treats way too much. One got chunky fast—vet said borderline diabetic territory. Cut back hard, more interactive play with wand toys. He’s slimmer now but I still feel bad saying no to those big eyes.

6-10 Quick Hits (Because I’m Tired and Luna’s Staring)

  • Hyperthyroidism: Old cat ate tons, lost weight anyway—meds fixed it mostly.
  • Kidney Disease: Caught early with bloodwork—special diet + extra water.
  • Fleas: Even indoors somehow—Frontline monthly now.
  • Arthritis: Senior one limps—heated pad + joint chews help.
  • Skin Allergies: Itchy bald spots—limited ingredient food trial.

Look, cat health issues suck. They make you feel helpless sometimes, especially when you’re just a regular person trying your best between work and life. But catching stuff early and not ignoring weird behavior saves a lot of heartache (and money). If your cat’s off, call the vet—don’t be like me and wait “one more day” half the time.
